Kevin Mathis
Kevin Mathis is the owner and artistic director of M2 Dance Center. Since opening its doors in 2001, M2 has been a labor of love for him. His mission has always been to create an inspiring learning experience for dancers of all levels while helping them reach their personal best.
Mathis began coaching at Lake Central High School in 1989. Under his leadership, Lake Central has won a remarkable 21 National Championships and 58 Varsity Indiana State Championships. Most recently, the team won NDA national titles in Pom and Hip Hop in 2024, Jazz in 2022, and Pom in both 2021 and 2020, as well as Hip Hop in 2020.
In 1994, he founded the Indiana High School Dance Team Association, where he has served as President for 31 years. In 2000, he established Indiana Danzforce Allstars, leading them to achieve over 30 national titles with NDA and UDA.
From 2010 to 2019, Mathis served as the head coach of Purdue University’s Dance Team, quickly transforming them into an NDA jazz powerhouse. He has also served on the advisory boards of NDA and Varsity and is a highly respected judge at the national high school and collegiate levels. Additionally, he has been the Executive Board President of the National Dance Coach Association since 2017 and was awarded the National High School Coach of the Year Award in 2022.
In 2025, Mathis was inducted into the Indiana High School Dance Team Association’s Hall of Fame.
Mathis is married to his wife, Dana, and is the father of Jessica and Miles. He is also a proud grandfather to two beautiful grandchildren, Sebastian and MacKenzie.
